To his wife
Dearest, I received your somewhat alarmed letter of the 17th and I am
overjoyed to tell you that I have finally returned to the base camp. I
evicted the lice (there were lots of them. They were a strange shape,
conical?) I have washed and now I am writing.. . I was with those of 146
(see newspapers of the 14th and 15th, I think we talked about that) and I
assure you that it went very well if we exclude the fact that I didn't
wash and constantly rolling in the dirt and resting in rocky holes I became
a benefactor to some parasite families. You prayed for me and I did too
when my heart pounded strong I prayed and everything went well.
Think about it there are those who have the courage to say that I did a
good job; I didn't notice. The men were beside me just like the
exercises and everything came out well, except for the boredom of having
to stay so many days in one place.
